History
of the Practice
This practice was founded by Dr Lucas in 1937 at 1 Jacey Road, Shirley.
He was succeeded by Dr Gerald Farmer in 1959. Dr Farmer continued
as a single handed doctor, firstly at Jacey Road and from 1980 at
Northbrook Health Centre. He was joined by Dr Julia Lawley in 1995.
In 2000 the practice took over care of the patients of Dr Mike Grillage
who retired after 15 years in single handed practice. Dr Farmer
retired after 41 years in July 2000 and was replaced by Dr Sanjey
Rai.
At the same time there was another single-handed practice at Northbrook. Originally run by Dr Maureen Leschen, she was followed by Dr Stephen Wood and then Dr Gordon
Coleman. Dr Coleman took early retirement in November 2000 and this practice merged
with The Jacey Practice. Dr Bhavesh Gandhi, who had been a long term locum doctor
for Dr Coleman, moved with the patients and with Dr Rai became a full-time partner
at Jacey. Early in December 2000 the practice was joined by Dr Mari Reynolds.
Today The Jacey Practice is staffed by two full-time male doctors
and two part-time lady doctors. This gives the equivalent cover
of three full-time doctors.
